Autumn colors in the treeless tundra is something out of a fairy-tale. Ground colors, small tundra birch trees and vegetation shine such strong red, orange and yellow colors, that you would want to collect and take back with you. Kilpisjärvi is truly a place for photographers.

If you have not visited Kilpisjärvi village, you do not know much about the true Lapland.

The nature around Kilpisjärvi is unique to whole of Finland. It is rugged, wild and yet beautiful and free.

From Kilpisjärvi it is also very easy to take day trips to Norway. Skibotn at the Arctic Ocean is just a 1 hour drive away. And that drive will leave you breathless in all it's rugged majestic terrain. Towns of Tromsø, Alta and Nordkapp are further up to the north.

Polar night is a period of dimness in Lapland during the winter. All day long it will be dim. Many think it is frightening, but that it certainly is not. This is a season when you can just refuel your batteries and experience the amazing sight outside.

The days are bluish dim or sometimes reddish and during the night you may get a special treat to see some aurora borealis, a display on the night sky truly amazing. Having seen all of this may ask yourself, is this beauty just make-believe?
