This is the fifth year runners gather in
Kankaanpää for the marathon. In 2004, the marathon was run under the
name Reijo’s 100th Marathon with a total of 69
finishers. In 2005, the first Kankaanpää marathon and half
marathon were run with a total of 286 finishers. Since then,
the event has become more popular every year and in 2007,
almost 550 runners crossed the finish line.
Kankaanpää is situated about 270 km north
from Helsinki and about 90 km from Tampere.

and the number of marathons you have run.
A special prize is awarded to those running
their first marathon. To receive the prize, please register
by 9th October.

RACE CENTRE
On the day of the race, registration takes
place and numbers are picked up at the race centre at
Niinisalo elementary school.
Dressing rooms and showers are also at your
disposal at the school.
COURSE
The start and finish are at Niinisalo
elementary school.
The course is largely flat and it and runs
around the village of Niinisalo, mostly on paved roads and
cycleways. Marathoners run the 10.55 km lap four times,
half-marathoners twice.
The conditions are ideal for marathon
running, for first-timers as well as those aiming for
personal best or race record.
Refreshment points
There are three refreshment points along the
course serving sports drink, water, raisins, and bananas.
If you have refreshments of your own, please
bring them to the race centre by 10.30 am on the day of the
race.
CHAMPIONCHIP
The ChampionChip timing is used providing
net times and split times for all participants. The results
will be available online shortly after the race. You have to
return your chip after the race otherwise you will be
charged 30 €.

PRIZES
All athletes crossing the finish line will
be awarded a medal.
All marathoners and half-marathoners, who
have registered by 9th October, have the
opportunity to win a trip to Rome Marathon or one of the
other great prizes!

half marathon will be awarded with a cash prize:

If the fastest official marathon or half
marathon time in Finland 2008 (by 31st December
2008) is run in Kankaanpää, the runner will be awarded

Challenge cup trophy
The fastest man and woman will take home the
challenge cup trophy for a year. If someone wins the race
three times, they will get to keep the challenge cup trophy.
Last year the trophies were awarded to Taavi Tambur and Olga
Andrejeva, both for the second time.
By bus from Tampere to Kankaanpää
A bus to the race centre will leave at 8 am
from Tampere bus station .
After the race, the first bus back to Tampere leaves at 2
p.m. and the second bus at 5 p.m. or when the last person
registered for the bus journey is on the bus. Register for
the bus journey by e-mail in advance, 9th October
at the latest. The price for a return ticket is 20 €.
