NGC 1175 is much brighter and larger in this duo. It's clearly elliptical in NW-SE and has a somewhat brighter core. NGC 1177 is only a round haze nearby 12 mag star with averted vision. NGC 1176, NGC 1178 and NGC 1183 are also visible in this field but they are misclassified to stars in RNGC.
