Routine
My current practice routine:
Currently I don't have a set routine.
I teach 4-5 days, 30+ hours, a week:
- guitar and electric bass
- improvisation
- ensemble playing
- music theory
- arranging and composition
In addition to that I try to put in at least a few hours daily of other music-related work, such as:
- reading about music
- working on teaching materials
- arranging
- composition/ songwriting
- transcription
- working on my lessons
Subjects
Subjects I've worked on lately are:
- arpeggios - triads and seventh chords
- chord tones & neighbor tones - targeting/ enclosure
- chordmelody playing/ chord soloing
- legato playing
- II-V-I's
- playing octaves
- using a capo - this is an art form in itself and requires a lot of work...
- Zen Guitar
History
Subjects I've previosly studied and worked a lot on are:
- afro-cuban rhythm music/ "salsa"
- blues & minor blues
- brazilian rhythm music
- comping - styles, rhythm and voicings
- modal playing
- playing up and down one string
- playing walking bass lines
