Site info

Basics

This is a personal site of a 20-something girl. Previously known as elsi (and/or e·l·s·i), this site's been online since August 1999. At first I used free servers, such as Envy.nu. Then I was invited to the late Its-Happening.org by Priscilla. When that domain came to an end, I was lucky enough to be able to move my site to the new #1 classic rock domain in the net, WheelInTheSky.org.

Previous lay-outs WITS.org was closed in March 2006. I kept building my site, even though I never got it online. I bought my first ever domain on December 29, 2006, from EasyLineHost.fi. Rock-A-Bye.net was mine for an entire year.

The domain expired in December 29, 2007. I decided not to purchase it again. I might someday, but right now I'm really so busy with everything else, that I don't have time to update my site regularly. So, the site's gone from Rock-A-Bye.net to just Rock-A-Bye.

Rock-A-Bye

The name Rock-A-Bye came to me in the summer of 2004. It's actually the title of one Tommy Bolin song. And since I'm more or less obsessed with the word rock and I'd been wanting to change the title of my site, Rock-A-Bye was the perfect name.

Software

When I started webdesigning on my first computer back in 1999, I used FrontPage Editor to build my site(s). But since there usually was something wrong with the coding, I had to fix it "manually". That's how I really learned how to make things happen without FrontPage. Nowadays I use only Notepad Gedit (a text editor for Gnome).

For my graphics (which aren't that marvelous, I know) I've previously used four different programs: iPhoto Plus 4 (came with my previous scanner), Paint Shop Pro 4.12, Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and even Paint. Nowadays I mainly use Adobe Photoshop 5.0 and GIMP for things the old Photoshop can't do. :) For animated graphics I've used Babarosa Gif Animator 3.6, found at Download.com. However I have not made animated graphics in a long time, and I'm not even sure if Babarosa works on Linux.

Comments: Even though it's just the end of February, the sun has been shining like crazy. So, I'm waiting for summer and that was the inspiration for this lay-out. I found that drawn picture of three girls on my hard drive, and decided to use that. The colours match the way I've been feeling lately. :)
