The Story

The beginning (by Antti):
The autumn leaves were falling down and the year was 1990. I got a call from a guitar player Jarno Tiihonen from a local joint: "Hey, I'm here with Veke (the original upright bassist), let's go jammin'- just come on over and pick us up and get a drummer". Well, I knew that Oke could do the job and then we went and all of a sudden we found ourselves on stage.Later we've toured everywhere in Finland and in many parts of Sweden and once in England. We've been on telly couple of times and on next tour we'll be there again.

The first CD:
We'd been sending some demos for a few record companies in Finland. The most frequently heard answer: "You're a great band but you should sing in finnish". At the point when we were recording our first CD we didn't want to change the language and we didn't even want to find out if anybody was interested in releasing our first CD; we just wanted to get it out; and out it came, with a little help ftom Black Dog Records (from our hometown). Shortly after the first release (Common Trap) Veke decided to concentrate on his daily work as a butcher. The band continued on playing after finding a new upright bassist Lape (a former fellow bandmember of Antti in Stormy Weather).

Mr. Roy Williams:
"Nine Lives first came to the attention of Nervous Records when I came across their self-financed "Common Trap" CD. I was particularly taken with the track "Shake It Up and Go". My friend Dell Richardson began playing this track on CMR, a satellite broadcast station, to much critical acclaim, and decided to present Nine Lives at the 10th Big Rumble, an annual British event featuring bands from all over the world. Nine Lives appearance was a great success, and their melodic blend on Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Sixties " was warmly received. After a beers and much talking, me and the band decided, that their next CD (Roundabout) should be on Nervous Records. Recently A program called "The Net" (on BBC2) showed Nine Lives' promotional video (Red Hot Tease)."
A press release from Nervous Records

Introduction story from "Surfin Pig's" inside sleeve:
My story begins at the office of Nervous Records in London. I was paying Roy a visit and asked him if there were any good new bands. One of the bands was Nine Lives. I listened to the CD and heard two of the coolest neo-rockabilly songs. The songs were "Red Light District" and Minefield'. I then mailed the band to praise them! I contacted to Antti Pasanen who sent me a copy of the first Nine Lives album called "Common Trap" It was solid! Every track was great! Now here is their third Cd "Surfin Pig", another collection of Nine Lives gems.
Stick to your guns! Paul Roman - The Quakes

The (hi)story goes on:
Now Nine Lives have cut out a deal with Crazy Love Records concerning their new third CD called "Surfin' Pig' The band is more rocking and rolling and find out about the rest by getting the new CD; from a band from way up north from something in the middle of anything. In their homeland they have to tour in strange conditions- a true story by Antti: "The tour was going all right when there was only 20 degrees below zero, but when the frost-man hit us it was 36 degrees below, the bus going nowhere, we were towing it around the town trying to get it going, but fortunately finally we made to Helsinki (the capitol of Finland). The funny thing was the fact that in our hometown way up north it had been warm (some degrees over zero)".
