Willow Grouse Hunting

Hunting willow grouses in the winter offers excitement and experiences even for the more experienced hunter. In addition to the pleasure of hunting, you will get the chance to enjoy skiing and the ruggedly beautiful scenery of the northernmost municipality of Finland.

To maximize your catch, you must stay alert at all times and keep watch of the environment. Depending on the prevailing conditions, you may only have one chance to shoot. A white willow grouse on white snow is difficult to spot; you may only see it when it takes off. The vast uninhabited areas north of the tree limit are the nesting and wintering places of willow grouses.

A very strong willow grouse population lives in the surroundings of Karigasniemi. The size of the population varies annually depending on the broods' survival. With the help of a guide with good local knowledge, you are much more likely to get a catch.

Willow grouses are traced by skiing and we recommend wearing a white snow suit or other clothes that are totally white so they cannot spot you. Participants must have a firearms license and a valid hunting license. An adventurous mind and mild insanity are also beneficial.

This noble form of hunting is suitable for women, men, and youngsters alike – if they have a hunting license. You can participate even without a hunting license if you want to capture game only with your eyes or camera.

For companies, willow grouse hunting is a fantastic way to give customers new experiences in the midst of business negotiations.

Willow grouse hunters can stay the night at Eräkievari or the cabin at Akuvaara. We will arrange your permits (priority given to lodgers). We will also provide a guide’s (+ dog) services when needed.
