Trout Fishing Trip on the Pinja River

Trout fishing trip: In the Kola penninsula's tundra on the Pinja river which is abundant in fish. The season is at its best in July and August, when the trout have migrated from the lakes into the rivers for their spawning trip. A group can easily catch more than a hundred trout with the biggest being in the weight range of 3 to 4kg.

Pinja is a real wilderness river, that flows 120km away from the nearest road or habitation on the treeless tundra. The river is suitable for single handed fly rods and the method of fishing is catch and release. Fish for the camp fire can be taken each day for food, but in general C&R is the practice.

For the group the entire Pinja river including its tributaries has been reserved. On the second day the group will move from Lovosero by tracked vehicle to the river , where a tent camp is located. From the camp it is easy to reach on foot the nearby river. If fishing is required further away from the camp then this will be done by boat of with the tracked vehicles.

Equipment: the best flies have been streamers and various insect imitations (dry and wet).

Accomodation in camp is arranged in communual tents. You can bring your own tent if you wish more peace and quiet. Meals are served in the camp; breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are fishing further away from the camp then you can make a packed lunch with provisions provided. A sauna evening is arranged on the last evening in Ylätuloma.

The trip begins at Ivalo airport (located in Northern Finland; accessible via Finnair) as soon as the afternoon flight has arrived. From the airport you will be transported across the border crossing (Raja-Joosepi) passing through the Russian border formalities. After the Russian border formalities the trip will continue to Lovosero, which is expected to take approximately 7 hours. In Lovosero you will be accomodated in a hotel where you will be served dinner. After breakfast the trip to the river will start in tracked vehicles. Upon arival and after setting up camp, fishing can commence. The next days will be used trout fishing in the river and in its tributaries. On the second to last day after breakfast the return trip to Lovosero will begin from where the trip back will be with cars. At Ylätuloma a sauna, accomodation and a dinner will be arranged. After breakfast the trip back to Finland will commence. Departure and arrival on Saturday unless otherwise agreed wih the group.
