Backcountry Biking Tour around the Iso Syöte Nationalpark

Typical lapish landscape with huge forests and hills marks the Iso Syöte Nationalpark. The tour leads through forests, along swamps, lakes and rivers mostly on small gravelroads, partly single trails. It is made for everybody with good physical condition, biking skills are a must. The daily routes are between 40 and 65 km. We pass many places with natural and cultural interest. A guide will lead the group by own bike. Overnights in tents or in cabins. Tentsauna is provided every evening. Tours profile: slightly hilly, not steep, a normal hardtail bike is suitable.

Getting there The closest airport is Kuusamo (60 km). But the flight terms (connections and prices) are easier on the airport Oulu ( 150 km - Blue1 by SAS and Finnair destination)

Program

1st day:
Transfer from the airport to the Finn-Jann Huskyfarm. Dinner, introduction of group and guide, typical finnish wood heated sauna, overnight.
2nd day:
Tour starts in the direction of the Iso Syöte Nationalpark. Visit of the nature- and information center at the entrance of the park. Camping overnight in the Iso Syöte Nationalpark near a beautiful small pond (distance ca. 50 km).
3rd day:
Cycling through beautiful parts of the Nationalpark on singletrails and forestroads. Short climb to the top of Iso Syöte “tunturi”. From Loukusa a very small village north of the Nationalpark transfer by car to ”Kitka lake”, one of the most beautiful lakes in north Finland, with sandy beaches and very clear water. Overnight by the lake in cabin or tents. Fishing, swimming and real sauna (ca. 40 km).
4th day:
In the morning we visit the home museum in Lohiranta. . The tour leads us today through the idyllic lakeaera of Livohka. Mostly over singletrails with a great views to the lakes. Later on we pass by at a very typical finnish farming region. We enter to an old farmplace at the beautiful lake Kaukuanjärvi. In the evening we visit a salmon growing lake and we have the possiblity to get an own catch. Overnight in a blockcabin by the lake with a nice sauna.
5th day:
In the morning we visit the farmowner’s atelier where she produces traditional lappish textile souveniers and clothings. Biking goes further to the fjells of ”Pyhitys”, the highest point of the whole aera. Small hike to the top for a great view over the whole nationalpark. Afterwards we visit the lake “Kosto” which is of historical interest. In the afternoon we bike to ”Soiperoinen”, a small pretty lake created by the icetime artist (ca. 35 km).
6th day:
The tour goes on through the village of Taivalkoski, on a single trail to ”Pahkakuru” canyon, wher we have lunch. With a short stop/learn and go in a real reindeer collecting fence the roundtour takes it´s end in the Finn-Jann Huskyfarm. After sauna, celebration dinner and overnight on the farm (ca. 60 km).
7th day:
After Breakfast we say goodby, transfer to the airport.

We reserve rights to make some chances to the program depending on weather and group conditions and also for for chances which are not depending on us. Biking skills and condition: Our service car follows the tour daily. It will be max, 2 hours away from the group. It can be called for medical treatments, picking up tired drivers or repairing/changing bikes. The meals on the tour are normal breakfast, the guests ownmade sandwiches for lunch if the service car doesn’t reach the group at lunchbreak. During lunch we normaly have saussages, sandwiches, chocolate, fruits and drinks. In the later afternoon there is a breake with coffee, tea and some snacks. Dinner is normaly a warm meal with fresh salad , drinks, coffee, tea and cake. All the bikes are equiped with drinking bottles. Please give us informations about special diets you need at least one week before arrival. During the trip the guests help to build up their tents and do other camping works. The guide has all needed repairing stuff travelling with the group.
