More about the Breeder

In 1977 Tiina Hallsten (before marriage 2009 she was  Paukku) got her first dog, a German Shepherd dog and the first Kerry Blue Terrier came to the family in 1985. Tiina has been breeding Kerry Blue Terriers under the prefix Slievemish (F.C.I. reg.) since 1988. Although the breeding is very limited there are more than 70 homebred Champions including fourteen International Champions as well as there are several Group and Best in Show winners. The Finnish Kennel Club's Award for excellent breeding (Vuolasvirta Award) as well as the Breeder's Awards of the Finnish Terrier Assosiation and the Finnish Dog Breeder Club have been awarded to Tiina's Slievemish kennel.

Tiina has been quite active in committee work as well as in the local all breed club but also in the national breed club since 1986. The Silver Medal of Honor has been awarded to Tiina by the Finnish Kennel Club in 2008. As a natural continuation to all this, Tiina got her Judge Licence in 2001 and now she is qualified to judge Airedale Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Brasilian Terriers, Bull Terriers, Fox Terriers (Smooth & Wire), German Hunting Terriers, Glen of Imaal Terriers, Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers, Irish Terriers, Japanese Terriers, Kerry Blue Terriers, Lakeland Terriers, Sealyham Terriers and Staffordshire Terriers. And she is studying all the time for more breeds to judge.

At home there are only two or three adult Kerries living with Tiina and her husband Jari. Jari is the one who actually introduced Tiina to Kerries; at the time they got to know each other there was a Kerry male living at his home. Tiina's "bad habbit" are the co-owned Australian Cattle Dogs, whom she is handling at the shows.
