The boat: Sirena 38
The mast: Seldén mast
A) We placed the lifting strop at near the centre of gravity of the mast.
(We made sure that it could be removed from the mast in some convenient way)
B) We made sure that standing and running rigging were lying correctly. (No halyards or stays were over the spreaders.)
C) We raised mast and placed it in position on its base. We suported it temporarily and removed lifting strop.
D) We increased the tension of cap shrouds to about 15% of their breaking load, so that the distance between the lower terminal of the shroud and the deck is the same on starboard and port sides. And we checked the tension with measurement instrument.

E) First we fitted tie-rods and then after ruber wedge and forward rubber wedge. We pulled the mast toward the stern with force to do this with the main winches or with help of the lift/Petri Lonnroos.
Final) we cheked that the masthead, in the athwartships direction, lied on a line. The upper shrouds should be adjusted with the screws to bring the masthead into the correct position. The tension in the upper shrouds must be the same, so the screw on one side should be taken up by the same amount as the screw on the other side is slackened off.
And then we carried out final tuning when sailing. The wind strength should cause the boat to heel to about 20%. The lee-side cap shroud should not to slacken until the angle of heel reaches about 20%.
The picture above is from year 1982. From the first rigging. Nowadays the job is done in some minutes with skilled crane- truck driver his assistant and myself and my wife.
