ENGLAND
It looks like London town might
be on fire
You can't even see the Big Ben
tower.
The bombers come most every
night
They fill the sky until early
light.
The destruction they leave is
a terrible sight.
Nothing can stop our will to
fight.
The chubby guy in the air raid
wardens hat
Shook his fist at the sky and
uttered that.
We shall fight on the beaches,in
the fields and in the towns
We shall never surrender the
Kings Crown
We shall fight forever,you will
never put us down.
Try to cross the English Channel
and you will drown.
In America at the movies every
night
On the news reels we could see
Englands plight.
England was once my grandparents
homeland
And we could never understand
Why America didn't lend a helping
hand.
No one knew what our President
had planned.
There will always be an England, and
England shall be free
Somehow there will always be
an England for you and me.
First came bundles for Britain,then
destroyers for the fleet
And the Salvation Army collecting
on every street
Lend lease an obligation we
had to meet.
So England could stand on her
feet.
Then one Sunday morn,at Pearl
Harbor far across the foam
The bombs began to fall on us,
England no longer stands alone.
Then a million men crossed the
hostile sea
From American shores came a
great army.
We are here Sir Winston we have
answered your plea
Now England will forever be
free.
How many soldiers were here?
Was anyone's guess
But England became a mighty
fortress
And wherever you go you always
hear
Hello Yank glad your here.
So Jami,and Margaret and Jenny,stand
up and cheer
You have nothing more too fear.
I'm proud I was part of that
mighty host
Those are memories I treasure
the most.
Now I can still see the streets
of London town
And remember the last night
at the Stag and Hound
And Jenny saying,lets have one
more round.
Tomorrow none of us may be around.
