My dog hobby began actually in 70’s, when my father was breeding Finnish Hounds. I was also very interested of dogs, but my father didn’t agree, because I tried to wash 1 week old puppies and I was also wondering why they don’t have their eyes open… I was only 5 years old. In the year 1980 my godfather gave me my first own dog. He was Siperian Husky, who represented show type of this breed, which is nowadays very rare. I noticed that it wasn’t my breed at all and when he died as 13 years old year 1992 and my father had finished breeding Hound dogs year 1985, because of loosing his good bitch lines; I started to select new breed. |

St Bernard… it was
the most interesting breed for me, and I wanted to find out if
it’s really so. Now in year 2007 it’s time to remind what
has happened during 15 years. Because dogs are only a hobby for me I
work with VALIO products. I got my kennel name year-97, and this name is mixture of names of sires of my 1st bitch and 1st dog. |

| Sanct Weronicas Natalie Year 1996 came a bitch to us also from same kennel: Sanct Weronica’s Natalia ( Sanct Weronica’ s Galicula- Ulla vom Bismarckturm). “Nata” didn’t become such a showstar as I was hoping, but she had many good puppies for example her daughter, King-Baronen’s Ei Kai Bis Yx became Champion of two countries. Gaston was anyway the dog who started our show career…

First litter was born 1996. It had 9
puppies and two of them became Fin CH,and one Norwegian Ch,
but I wasn’t 100% happy with
quality of them. Biggest reason was that they didn’t live long enough.
First I though it’s only my bad luck, but afterwards I realised it’s
maybe not so,
and I gave up for those lines. I started to look for new
blood lines and to contact to foreign breeders.

First I was
very interested of German lines of
Saints, and I also imported very beautiful bitch from Germany:
Ch Veronica von
St Florian, who’s breeder is a special judge of saints. Special thanks to Erika
and Heinz.
Veera has got an excellent show success. She is Fin, N & S Ch,
Winner-01 in Finland and winner-04 in Sweden.
She has many placements of group
competitions and Best In Shows and of course plenty of times BOB.
The most
important is that she is sympathetic home dog and also she has almost ten
champion kids.
It’s impressive to have imported dog, who is good herself and
who has good offspring.

After this I wanted to try something new. I was looking from Norway and
from there I found (but not easily) Heitlogården`s Big Foot. I was looking
for a dog who has size, bone and movement. Big Foot was 5,5 years old when
he moved to us year 1999, but his show career was not over yet. He has been
very successful in dog shows. Maybe his best result is BIS-1 veteran in
Tornio 2001. He also got invitation to veteran of veterans competition, but
we didn`t take a part. Thanks for this great dog belongs to his breeders
Nils and Lillian Heitlo in Norway to Heitlogården`s Kennel.

Year 2000 I first time mated American line and
Scandinavian line St.bernards dogs "Big
Foot" and "Veera". In this litter there was 9 puppies. Multi Ch Indiana
Jones
is the most famous male from this litter. He has taken a part in shows
very
successfully in many countries. Also females: King-Baronen`s Image of Power, she is
international Champion too and Ice Queen is Fin Ch, and Ihme ja Kumma is
missing 1 CAC to become Fin & S Ch.
Indiana Jones is father of some litters, for example our P- and Q-litter.
Ihme ja Kumma was mated with Norwegian multi winner Toffe-Loffe Go-Go
Gentleman in year 2005 and Image of Power was mated with Swedish Farm of
Charms Remington in year 2004 and also year 2006 she was inseminated
with
seamen of the most winning Saint in Usa Lasquite`s Garlanda V Chalice.

Daughter Europejuniorwinner-06 ,and one daughter Finish Winner 2006.

about Newfoundlanders:

2000 I
found stunning Newfoundland male: And I`m Great to Be back "Bruce". We were looking for a long lines where “Bruce” could
be as near as possible. In year 2000 was born a litter to Juno-Juhekin Kennel
and father was “Bruce”. Leevi was promising male puppy of this litter. Later
Leevi started his show career with good success. In picture Leevi is in all
breed show in Rovaniemi. |

Juno-Juhekin Izmo is for example BIS and Group winner.
Leevi has some litters and his puppies are still young but promising. Leevi has
healthy HD and ED and he is cystinuria free and heart no signs of heart
diseases. |

This litter was outbred but balanced. One male puppy
died as 5 week old, because he choked his own food

litter is young but promising. Especially Mr Big Foot is a dog I wait big success in

Also King-Baronen`s Mongtomery and Magic-Trick are promising dogs. In year
2006 Image of Power was inseminated with
the most winning
St Bernard male in
USA, AM CH Lasquite`s Garland v Chalise. Garland`s owner judges Joan Zielinksi choce our "sylvi"
as the only bitch in Europe for this magnificent male.

Golden Glow van`t Hof ten Eynder. He is a new American Opdyke`s lines to me..
But don`t forget, we are planning using our Breeding programme also USA national winner
Lasquite`s Orlando v Hans. He´s frozen seamen is already in Finland.
Saints not for
earning money. The most important feature for me is not size, but healthy structure, anatomy, movement
and most of all
proportions. These are things I emphasise in breeding without forgetting the
most beautiful head.
All these are not very easy to get in the same package.
and good character
dogs.And don`t forget a great humor with saint bernards breeder.
I trying using my breeding programme so healthy saints as possible, but still i am not only hips fanatic.
I hope I
can one day also judge this breed. I am member of Finnish kennel club and I
have sign breeders’ code of ethics.
Often my kennel born only 1-2 litters / year.
Co-operation with Finnishs and foreign
breeders is nessesary .
