DECATHLETE'S SAGITTA
"Chess"

Owner: Mette Sørensen, Denmark
Chess is absolutely wonderfull. She is the kind of dog that almost learns by herself what would be the proper way to behave. As a puppie when I went to my horse out in the pen she would by herself stay behind the fense and just find a comfortable place to whaite untill I had finished my business. She didn't even care if I was out of sight. (that down-stay in obedience for several minuts with me out of sight is just a piece of cake for her:) She always knows where I am and when to stay close, she just seems to be so clever and confident that I ofcause would come back eventually. It is the same way in other situations that she just real quickly figurs out what is the smartest thing to do. Rarely I will have to tell her what to do or not to do and then she gets it right away. She is very calm at home and loves to cuttle up in the sofaThis ofcause is not the hole truth, because she does sometimes switch from this gentle, calm, frindly and sensitive dog to a rearly tough bitch that among other things will go chasing horses, squrels and other things! Once she very selfconfidently chaced a fox away from my garden, so it was screaming long after. Then she doesn't listen at all to what I have to say about it!! She has never tried herding, but I think she would be keeping those sheep very well under control and not take any shit from them. A favorit ocupation for her is to herd other Border Collies.
Chess is so far doing obedience and agility. When I got chess I was looking for a dog for obedience. I have not been doing agility before. Janita and Jaakko seemed to think that this should not be taken too seriously, so they started already before Chess was born to test my agilityskills and teach me very persistantly. When I got Chess we started puppieagility and we both just loved it. Today I can not imagine not to do agility and we are definately going to have fun and compete in this sport.
Chess is also doing obedience very well. When she was a puppie she seemed to think that the exercises that involved running and speed was just the best, but graduately she rearly enjoys other exercises like healwork too. We try to keep it a game with lots of play, running and tugging. The favorit reward is a flying freesbee :). She is so easy to train and learns very fast.
Neather in agility or obedience she never gets so high or stressed that she forgets to think. Chess is just such a cool, clever little girl :)
She is brave in new situations, usually she is just happy everywhere and cool with everything, like sounds, people and usually also other dogs. If it is a wild labrador or crazy males, she might just let her teath shine if it comes to close. Though she plays a lot and can run really fast around, she is very calm and easily adapt to everywhere I take her. No stress at all and can relax everywhere. This is soo nice I think.
Chess went on danish national TV as 9 weeks old! The subject was to prevent behavioral problems and that so many dogs are put down. Christina Ingerslev had just published her new puppiebook and they wanted to talk about these things on the popular morning TV. Chess was a great TV star and everybody thought she was so cute and smart! They Zoomed in on her pretty face several times.
