Lightweight
...these programs are for my TinyBox :) They will run on both 9.1 and 10.0.
AntiWord is a free MS Word reader for Linux. It converts the binary files from Word 2, 6, 7, 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003 to plain text, to PostScript, to PDF or to XML / DocBook (experimental). AntiWord is usable on all but the most complex Word documents.
Naim is a ncurses-based console client for AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), AOL I Seek You (ICQ), Internet Relay Chat (IRC), and the Lily CMC. Dependencies: gawk, ncurses, screen.
IMCom is a command-line Jabber client written in Python. It looks very similar to mICQ, though the actual command interpreter is a bit different. Commands are issued to IMCom in a style similar to IRC. Dependencies: Python.

Emulators
Z81 is a Sinclair ZX80 / ZX81 emulator. Included are two versions of the emulator: z81 (for svgalib) and xz81 (for X window system), zx81get (a ZX81 tape reader), saverom (a program to save the ROM from a ZX81), some games, and the ZX80 and ZX81 ROM files.
You may wonder why to bother with so ancient and slow (1 MHz Z80A processor, 1kb RAM, 8kb ROM) computer? Well, it was my first computer, back in the early 80's, and I'm so old (not really!) that sometimes I feel a little nostalgic ;-)
Spectemu is a Sinclair ZX Spectrum emulator. There are again two versios: vgaspect (for svgalib) and xspect (for X window system)
History lesson again: some time after the ZX81 appeared, the 48k Sinclair ZX Spectrum hit the shops. I just had to have it back then, and now you can have it too...
Games: Space Invaders
Space Invaders is probably the most famous, and most copied, of the "old school" arcade games. Here
are now three different clones of the Space Invaders game:
Ascii Invaders: a ncurses-based console version
XInvaders: very faithful to the original, for the X windows system
Invaders 3D: 3-dimensional version.

Games: Other
Aliens vs. Predator is a Linux port of the original Aliens vs. Predator "Gold Edition" (Fox Interactive / Rebellion Developments) game. This package includes only the Linux client, you need to copy the game data from the CD of the Windows(TM) version. Dependencies: SDL, OpenAL, working hardware 3D acceleration on Pentium II or better. See /usr/doc/avp-20040112/README.postinstall for detailed installation instructions. Transcend is a retro-style, abstract 2D shooter. Two features set Transcend apart from other games. First, its dynamic graphical engine, which can smoothly morph from one complex shape to another in realtime, produces striking displays. Combining these dynamic shapes with subtle randomizations ensures that each new play through a Transcend level is visually different from the last. The second novel feature is Transcend's musical power-up system. As you play through a level, you are simultaneously assembling an abstract visual collage and arranging a unique piece of music. Transcend merges video games with pure art - it can be viewed either as a game or as a multimedia sculpture.
XBill is definitely THE classic Linux game: You're a sysadmin, and someone's trying to destroy your computers. The little people running around the screen are trying to infect your computers with Wingdows [TM], a virus cleverly designed to resemble a popular operating system. Additionally, some computers are connected with network cables. When one computer on a network becomes infected, a spark will be sent down the cable, and will infect the computer on the other end when it reaches there...
This package is compiled with all three GUI options: Xaw3d, Motif and GTK. It will run on Slackware 9.1 also.
CoreWars is a simulation game where a number of warriors try to crash each other while they are running in a virtual computer. The warriors can be written in one of two assembler-like languages called Corewars and Redcode... Ever wanted to write a virus? Well, here's your chance, in a safe way. Dependencies: GTK+1
This package will run on Slackware 9.1 also.
Multimedia
Rioutil is a command-line utility designed for the use of interfacing with Rio's portable mp3 players: Rio 600/ 800/ 900/ S-Series/ Riot/ psa[play/ Fuse/ Chiba/ Cali. It provides also a possibility to download files from Rio, unlike the original Windows(TM) software. This package was compiled with both libusb and usbdevfs support, and needs an enabled hotplug system. See /usr/doc/rioutil-1.4.7/HOTPLUG for further instructions.
Rio600 is a small program (kio-slave) which allows you to access a Rio600 (or compatible) via KDE's Konqueror browser, by typing rio600:/ as an address. The allowed actions are: copy&paste files to the Rio (drag&drop doesn't work), remove files and read the status information of the Rio. Dependencies: rioutil.
GnomeRadio is a FM radio tuner for the GNOME desktop. It should work with every FM tuner card that is supported by video4linux. Remote controls are supported via (optional) lirc (Linux Infrared Remote Control)-support. GnomeRadio can also record radio as a Wave, MP3 or Ogg files.
This package was compiled without lirc support.
StreamTuner is a stream directory browser. Through the use of a plugin system, it offers an intuitive GTK+2 interface to Internet radio directories such as SHOUTcast and Live365. Dependencies: GTK+2, scrollkeeper, curl, libxml2, python, pyGTK>=2.4.0, taglib>=1.2.
StreamRipper is an application that lets you record streaming mp3 to your hard drive. It is also utilized by Streamtuner, if available.
Graphics
QCad is an application for computer aided drafting in two dimensions. With QCad you can create technical drawings such as plans for buildings, interiors or mechanical parts. Dependencies: qt >=3.3.0.
Blender is the first and only fully integrated 3D graphics creation suite allowing modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, realtime interactive 3D and game creation and playback with cross-platform compatibility. Blender is being released with source codes under the GPL license.
YafRay is a powerful raytracer under the LGPL license. It enables you to create fantastic images and animations of a photo realistic quality. Export to YafRay is integrated in Blender.
Development
SCons is an Open Source software construction tool -that is, a next-generation build tool. Think of SCons as an improved, cross-platform substitute for the classic Make utility with integrated functionality similar to autoconf/automake and compiler caches such as ccache. In short, SCons is an easier, more reliable and faster way to build software. Dependencies: python.
