Sir Jesse, the deserved leader of our gang, was a very wild youngster who turned out to be a wild adult who turned out to be the most charming and wise old gentleman. He matured quite slowly, as many afghans do. He was 8,5 years old when he finished his Int Ch title with Best of Breed and Group 2nd in February 1998. In the showrings year 1997 was quite successful for Jesse; he went to seven all-breed shows (six of them International) with seven placements in the Best Male competition, including BOS and 3 CACIBs!! Five of these shows were in Finland and they made Jesse #7 Afghan Male of the year. Jesse was #1 Veteran Male for two years (1997, -98) before he retired from show rings due to illness. Jesse always loved to go to the shows, but he had also another favorite hobby: lure coursing. He was actually quite talented and was qualified to the finals with good placements in most of the competitions he attended. Jesse most obviously had inherited his gifts from his mother who was one of the first afghans (and sighthounds) competing in lure coursing in Finland and who missed only one cc from her coursing Ch title as she concentrated on motherhood. Since 1999 Jesse was happily spending his retirement days and enjoying his life running - well, later on walking - between his two favorite places: the sofa and the refridgerator... And he still loved to go to dog shows and attended the Parade of Seniors at the Finnish National Specialty in June 2001. As you can see, he really enjoyed his day out! Jesse also liked to watch the younger dogs playing and sometimes he even joined them. Despite the age difference of 12 years, Joose and Jesse became really good friends and had their own team, "the Striped Ones". You can find pictures of them playing at Jesse's pictures.
