Project: Sittkoff family genealogy

Information request

For my genealogy project to describe the descendants of Stefan Sittkoff I am looking for any information on the Westerlund family below.

Karl Albert Westerlund was born on 22.2.1855 in Hammarland, Åland in Finland, which at the time belonged to Russia. His wife Alexandra (Anna, Sascha) Moldakoff was born 9.3.1856 as daughter to Ivan Petter Moldakoff and Anna Sittkoff. Ivan was a merchant in Nyslott (Savonlinna) and later in Geta, Åland.

Karl Albert and his wife Alexandra received on 12.4.1886 passports for travelling to USA. In Gothenburg they are listed as finnish emigrants travelling 5.6.1886 on Argo to Hull with final destination Chicago Cook Co Ill. Another source says that they were going to Philadelfia. These photographs however indicate strongly that they ended up in Minnesota, probably in the neighborhood of Minneapolis, if not in the town itself.

It is possible that Alexandras parents, Ivan Moldakoff and Anna Sittkoff also emigrated to USA or at least made one or more trips over there.

In older family notes it is mentioned that Alexandra died in 1931 and that Karl and Hanna had died earlier.

I am grateful for any information about this family. Where they lived, when and where they died, any descendants? Also any advice on where to search for more information is appreciated. Please click on the email address below to send me your advice.

I have tried some sources on the web, like cemeteries in Minnesota, USGenWeb and FamilySearch but not been able to find anything that conclusively could be connected to this family. I am simultaneously approaching any relatives in Finland for information.

The attached family tree pages in some way reflect thc current status of the Sittkoff genealogy project by showing the descendants of Stefan Sittkoff in five generations. Please note that the occupation and place information currently is stated only in swedish or finnish language as applicable.

The information has been compiled by combining information mainly from the following sources:

Max Sittkoff´s collections
Family archive of Ralf Sittkoff
Kerttu Rydman´s archives at FRA
Mikko Saarenheimo: Savonlinnan kaupungin historia I and II
Lutheran and orthodox church archives

The earliest records of Stefan Sittkoff discovered so far are from the end of the 1740s as merchant in Nyslott, obviously mainly serving the Russian forces lodged at the Olofsborg castle after the peace in Åbo 1743, when Russia gained some of the southeastern parts of current Finland from Sweden.
